Ace Your Technical Interview: What Got Me Into Google, Microsoft and More

For my very first internship interview I didn’t even realize there was a technical portion. I just assumed it was going to be a bunch “tell me about yourself” type questions. And I wasn’t unprepared for it either. I spent two hours at my career center bugging everyone there for tips and spent a couple more hours practicing what I would say for different kinds of questions. But when I walked in — the interviewer did not ask me about myself or my biggest weaknesses and strengths. Instead they pointed me to a white board and gave me a marker. I had no idea my technical skills would be tested! I was completely thrown off-guard. I had no idea how to approach answering the question and obviously got a nicely worded rejection email just a few hours after.

Luckily for me, I had a lot more successful interviews after that. I’ve given 50+ technical interviews since then and prepared a lot of my friends for them too! So far it looks like what I’m doing works and has gotten me and other people through the technical interviews at companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Khan Academy and many more.
